Kelmore’s Silicone Finish is a low modulus, neutral cure silicone sealant with built in mould resistance.
Available in a wide range of popular colours, matching the Grout Flex15 colour palette, Silicone Finish can be used in wall and floor tiling installations to create highly flexible, waterproof joints. Suitable for use with natural stone tiles, this neutral cure, low odour formulation does not cause any migratory staining.
Possessing excellent adhesion, it bonds strongly to porcelain, ceramic, glass, and natural stone tiles, as well as being suitable for use with sanitary ware, PVC, stainless steel and copper. Silicone Finish is resistant to UV and temperature extremes making it suitable for use internally and externally, and in both domestic and commercial environments.
Application
All surfaces and joints must be dry, clean and free from contaminants that could inhibit adhesion, such as dust, dirt, oil and grease.
Cut the nozzle to the desired width at a 45° angle. Cut the tip off the tube, taking care not to damage the thread, and screw on the nozzle. Place into a standard sealant gun and whilst maintaining even pressure on the trigger apply the silicone to the desired area. Once applied, and within 5 minutes of application, tool the silicone bead to ensure good contact and a smooth finish.
To prevent contamination to surfaces and to achieve a neat silicone edge, masking tape can be used on areas adjacent to the joints. This tape should be removed immediately after smoothing the silicone and before the product skins.
When forming silicone movement joints within tiling installations, it is recommended that silicone movement joints have a minimum depth of 5mm or the thickness of the tile (whichever is smallest), and for joints wider than 10mm the depth should be approximately half the joint width. Deep joints should have an appropriate back-up material inserted into the lower part of the joint before the silicone is applied.
Curing
Times will vary dependent on the size and thickness of the joint formed, ambient temperature and humidity. Silicone Finish will form a skin after approximately 10 minutes and will cure at a rate of approximately 3mm within the first 24 hours.
Coverage
Coverage will vary dependent on the width and depth of the silicone joint. As a guide, a 310ml tube of Silicone Finish will cover approximately 12 linear metres when a 5mm x 5mm joint is formed, or 3 linear metres with a 10mm x10mm joint.
BS 5385, Parts 1-5: Silicone Finish should be used in conjunction with work carried out under the British Standard Code of Practice for Wall and Floor Tiling.
